ScanTherm’s Civil Thermographers are certified to provide a BREEAM 2011 Thermographic Survey Report as well as under the new 2014 Scheme SD5076.
We have experience of conducting thermographic surveys as required to achieve credits in line with the BREEAM Scheme Document for New Construction (SD5073). This technical guide describes an environmental performance standard against which new, non-domestic buildings in the UK can be assessed, rated and certified.
The document grants 1 BREEAM credit for a thermographic survey as part of Man 01 Sustainable Procurement, as follows:
14. The main contractor accounts for a thermographic survey within the project budget and programme of works.
15. Once construction is complete a thermographic survey of the building fabric is undertaken in accordance with the appropriate standard and by a professional holding a valid Level 2 certificate in thermography (as defined by the UKTA website http://www.ukta.org)
16. The survey confirms:
a. Continuity of insulation in accordance with the construction drawings
b. Avoidance of excessive thermal bridging
c. Avoidance of air leakage paths through the fabric (except through intentional open-ings)
17. Any defects identified via the post construction inspections are rectified
It should be noted that any thermographer can join the UKTA and will be listed on their website, with or without training or certification! It is important to check if they are certified by BINDT to PCN Level 2. A copy of this certificate will need to be provided as evidence to the BREEAM assessor who will need it for the BREEAM evidence file. We can provide copies of the required certification and sample thermographic surveys on request to potential clients.
