Drone Thermal Imaging Surveys of EWI for DCLG Advice Note 13

There is an increasing awareness of the need to conduct condition surveys of the External Wall Insulation (EWI) highlighted by DCLG Advice Note 13. This is particularly relevant for tall buildings over 18m high. We can provide thermal imaging surveys from the ground, masts and drones, also known as UAVs. The surveys are specifically to locate areas of likely water ingress into rendered or brick-slip finish EWI.

DCLG Advice Note 13

This recent advice note highlights the risks of deterioration or detachment of EWI systems with a rendered or brick-slip finish. Building owners are advised to undertake assessments to reassure themselves of the structural integrity of the EWI system. The DCLG advice is to conduct visual checks at least on an annual basis with a full condition survey every 10 years.

Thermal Imaging Drone Surveys

ScanTherm has developed techniques and processes to provide the recommended drone based thermal imaging surveys with our aerial surveying partner. We have experience of conducting these surveys even in central London in restricted airspace (such as areas covered by EG R158 or EG R159, for example). With enhanced permissions from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to fly at low levels, we can provide the most technical aerial thermographic surveys in congested and restricted areas. Our partners are one of the few companies in the UK to have been awarded an Operational Safety Case (OSC).
